Over the years, drones have greatly changed.  At first they were bulky unmanned flying devices used primarily by military forces.  They soon became a beloved gadget for hobbyists in varying sizes.  But now they are becoming a staple in mainstream commercialism.  Countless companies are finding ways to utilize drone technology to better their business.

Agriculturists are using drones to aid in farming.  Drones can be beneficial in many aspects of farm life.  They can observe and report conditions of crops.  They can be used to monitor hydration levels of plants, and water them if and when needed.  They can be used to precisely administer pesticides.  This can cut down on the actual amount of pesticides needed, and prevent humans from coming in contact with the chemical application process.  Drones can also be used to monitor and herd livestock.  Farmers often find themselves with a shortage of available workers, using drones helps them fill the gaps, save time, and money.

Emergency responders have found drones very helpful in saving lives.  When it comes to carrying out rescue missions, time is of the essence.  If a victim is trapped under debris, snow, mud, or in an isolated area trying to access them by standard vehicles can be difficult and time consuming.  With cameras and heat seeking sensors a drone can locate a victim in a matter of minutes.  A drone can even bring a victim emergency supplies while they wait for the responders to reach them.

Police forces across the United States are also embracing the benefits of drone technology.  With the use of drones police officers can carry out some of their daily jobs, like traffic monitoring, more efficiently.  A drone can also be used for the police to track a suspect safely.  If a suspect is reported to be in an area, a drone can be quickly dispatched to the scene to track the movements of said suspect before the police arrive on the scene.  This helps officers catch individuals at a greater rate while keeping themselves and civilians safe.

Realtors are using drones to better help clients sell properties.  The real estate market is overly saturated.  There can be hundreds of properties for sale in just one region.  To be able to set their properties apart from the crowd agents are hiring drone operators to take both still and video footage of private homes and commercial properties.  The images collected provide potential buyers with not just a stunning perspective of the property, but a completely immersive one.  This creates a far more impressive package than just standard ground pictures.

Major shipping companies are now looking to utilize drones as a way of making deliveries to customers homes.  Countries like Switzerland have successfully built an infrastructure to support this, while much of Europe and North America are still working out logistical issues.  However there are several companies like Zipline and Matternet that have proven that delivering blood samples and medical supplies via drone is a perfect solution for both high density and isolated areas.

Drones are also being used to inspect bridges, tunnels, roadways, power lines, and construction sites.  Ecologists are using drones to monitor endangered animal and plant species.  They are being used to monitor coastal erosion as well as the rapidly dissolving polar icecaps.  They are being used to replant forests to help reverse climate change.  In other words, the positive applications of drones in our society today are seemingly endless.
