Indoor Drone Parks: Much Better Than A Video Game

Nick Madincea and Marjorie Ferrone have a brilliant idea that is sure to make the next rainy day very exciting. The two Houston entrepreneurs have a dream of opening their own indoor drone park in Waco, Texas in a rented garage space that was once a Ford dealership. “Drone Parks Worldwide” would make a fun destination for families, since everyone is welcome – whether you are a complete newbie who has just finished your first flying lesson, or a professional drone pilot unwinding on a Saturday afternoon.

Madincea and Ferrone explain that some of the drones are smaller and slower, while some can fly around as quickly as a car. No matter which type of drone you fly in this park however, you’ll be suited up with video goggles that allow you to see what the drone cameras see in real time. These cameras are not the creepy kind used for spying; instead, you’ll feel like you are in a video game. According to Madincea, the racing drones will give you the same point of view as though you were sitting in the driver’s seat of a Formula 1 race car.

However, the similarities between playing video games and flying drones indoors end there. The drone park would make operators deal with real physical objects that don’t just disappear if you crash. Since the operators are all sharing the same space, they would have to interact and communicate, rather than being alone behind a screen.

Peter Ellis, a downtown developer, loves that the drone park is wholesome and family friendly. Madincea and Ferrone are still presenting their idea to investors at different events and festivals around Texas. They need help with funding the huge six-figure startup cost to get their business rolling. They are also working on a Kickstarter campaign. So far, others have been quite impressed with Drone Parks Worldwide. Real estate agents and developers all recognize how quickly the drone industry is growing.

Madincea was able to estimate his pricing for the park based on 300 regular customers. Memberships would be available at $60 – $80 per month, or customers have the option of doing a drop in session for $60 for the first hour and $40 for each hour after that. Of course, the prices could be adjusted if the customer base grows. While more and more people are getting licensed to fly drones, they must comply with all of the rules set by the Federal Aviation Association for recreational use. This drone park would allow families and friends to sort of sidestep some of these guidelines since the drones would be in a controlled indoor space and to simply enjoy the thrill of this fun new technology.
