Uber Planning to Make Uber Eats Deliveries via Drone

Uber has been making major moves in the transportation industry for the past few years, and their latest plan may cause a major shift in the food delivery business in America and around the world. Their latest plan involves replacing your food delivery guy with drones.  Uber recently announced their latest project called “Uber Eats” which will be powered by drones.

Uber made their announcement during the recent Uber Elevate event held in Tokyo as part of a broader plan for what the company sees as the future of the growing on demand aviation industry. This was the third edition of Uber Elevate, with the previous two events held in Los Angeles and Dallas. The previous events focused on Uber Air, an on demand flying car service that gets you a flying taxi at the touch of a button. Through all these inventions, Uber believes that they will reshape the future of the transportation and delivery industry.

While flying cars may sound like a totally different idea that taxis, Uber believes that both initiatives will go hand in hand. Uber will use the same infrastructure used for Uber Air as for Uber Eats, which allows for quick vertical takeoff of their electric drones. It will also be able to get the drones in the sky for a fast deliveries.

Uber is not the only tech company that is working on a system to implement drones for deliveries. Google, Amazon, Walmart, and other companies are researching and experimenting with delivery drones. This technology could also be applied in other fields, such as the delivery of medical supplies to hard to reach areas and much more.

Some fast food companies are also trying to take advantage of this new technology, creating their own versions of pizza drones and delivery robots. However, most of these are just gimmicks and will most likely never materialize. However, there are many companies that are already in beta testing.

Uber still needs to go through a massive infrastructure overhaul before embarking on this project. From changes to zoning regulations to changes to construction and city planning, and even air traffic control. All of these issues are hurdles Uber will have to overcome before they are in a position to create a functional and high quality drone delivery system. But it’s only a matter of time before home drone deliveries are part of our day to day life!
