Michael Jordan’s Golf Course, Grove XXIII, Delivers Food and Drinks to Players Via Drone

Michael Jordan, MJ, Air Jordan, His Airness, or simply Mike is one of the most recognizable sports icons in the world. He is best known for his amazing fifteen season career as a shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls, winning them six championships. His success led to one of the most profitable sports apparel lines. Upon his retirement from the NBA in 1993, Jordan surprised his fans with a stint at playing baseball for the Chicago White Sox. Though Jordan said his time as a baseball player was to honor a dream of his late father, his passion was clearly with basketball as he returned to his beloved Bulls in 1995. After another brief retirement in 1999, Jordan returned to the court in 2001 as a player for the Washington Wizards. Today, Michael Jordan is officially and fully retired as a professional basketball player. Instead, he has focused his interests on investments that are still sports-related.

In 2010, Jordan bought the Charlotte Hornets for $275 million, sticking to his basketball roots. Between owning an NBA team and many of his philanthropic endeavors, Jordan has found another sport that he loves, golf. Much of Jordan’s free time is spent playing golf on some of the top courses around the world. While at these golf courses, Jordan struck up a relationship with renowned golf course designer Bobby Weed. The two would often discuss ideas for Jordan’s dream golf course, a dream they brought to fruition in 2019.

In the fall of 2019, Michael Jordan’s elite personal golf course, Grove XXIII, opened in Hobe Sound, Florida. The course, which is laid out in a double helix pattern, offers a variety of play options to its invite-only members. Though how much it costs to become a member at Grove XXIII has not been made possible, you can be sure it costs close to the same as other elite golf courses, around $200,000. As of now, Grove XXIII only has 100 members. For those ready to pay the big bucks to play on Jordan’s golf course, you can also be sure that they expect top of the line amenities. And one of the Grove’s most popular amenities is a drone that replaces a traditional snack cart on the green.

In a world where social distancing has become a must, golf offers a way for people to get together and be active while still staying 6ft apart. And to keep things even safer, Grove offers contact free snack delivery via drone. Though Jordan may have drones deliver snacks and drinks for the wow factor, if not just because he can. Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki had a chance to play at Grove earlier this month and shared a video of a drone delivering her drinks.

In the video, you can see a drone with six rotors fly over to the green. Dangling from the drone is a rectangular looking parcel. The drone begins to lower down to the ground. Once the package comes in contact with the ground, the drone hovers until a gentleman rushes over to retrieve the goods. The parcel has partitions in it to keep the food and drinks organized and stable during flight. Upon closer inspection, you can see that the drone’s delivery basket has three compartments. The center section has four large circular spaces, while the remaining two sections have built in bottle racks. The man who approached the drone in Caroline’s video unpacks what looks like a couple of bottles of beer, some wine, and possibly a snack or two! Other times the drone delivers meals in shopping bags.

Michael Jordan has been called the greatest basketball player of all time. His accomplishments are many. It is no surprise that he expects to spend his leisure time relaxing in luxury. At Grove XXIII, Jordan gets to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes on an expansive golf course, with scooters and 35mph golf carts, and a custom clubhouse. And if he, or any of the elite guests, get a craving for something to eat or drink, their cravings can be fulfilled within minutes when delivered by a drone.
