DJI Release FPV (First Person Viewpoint) Accessories to their Lineup
DJI has become the go to standard for drones. They make some of the best drones available at a competitive price. There is a reason why their drones are the best selling drones in the world for both commercial and hobby use. DJI has so many drones and accessories in their arsenal, everything any drone operator could need. This week the Chinese based drone company announced the newest accessory kit being added to their already impressive lineup, the DJI Digital FPV System.
The Digital FPV System consists of everything you need to bring your droning experience to the realm of first person viewpoint (FPV). DJI’s website says, “The DJI Digital FPV System was specifically designed for hobbyist and professional drone pilots. It consists of the DJI FPV Air Unit Module, DJI FPV Camera, DJI FPV Goggles, and DJI FPV Remote Controller (RC), all of which are packed with powerful features and serve a significant role in the development of our HD Low Latency FPV system. We have redefined drone racing, delivering lower latency rates, a stunning HD display, and, most importantly, an unforgettable FPV flying experience.
“This FPV kit is aimed to any hobby drone user, but the technology makes it especially beneficial to those who want an FPV for racing scenarios. The HD Low Latency allows the video feed to come through in real time while a drone is racing at high speeds on a complicated course. When a drone is racing like this, making sure the image is clear and accurate can mean the difference between winning and loosing or crashing. The system can also transmit over a distance of 2.5 miles which will encompass a professional drone race course and has a camera that can give you a 150 degree range of view.

Another interesting feature is the Air Unit that supports eight channels of 5.8GHz wireless frequency. This enables a single drone operator to control up to 8 separate drones at one time. This works great for racers as well as drones being used for filming. Now an operator can race multiple drones smoothly and seamlessly. Or a film maker can film a single scene from multiple angles in the air at one time within one system. But as DJI points out, rather than watching your drone’s live feed from a handheld device for “an immersive FPV experience look no further than the DJI HDL FPV Transmission technology.
DJI is currently selling the kit as 2 packages. The Experience Combo retails for around $819 and the Fly More Combo retails for $929. Both kits need to be added onto an an existing drone system. The Fly More Combo however comes with the remote control unit designed specifically for the FPV kit. This controller is not needed if you have another one that is compatible.
