Draganfly Donates Medical Response and Search and Rescue Drones to Ukraine
Since February 24, 2022, the world has watched, in a state of disbelief and shock, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The UN estimates that 3.6million Ukrainians have fled the country for safety while their cities have been reduced to rubble. At least 900 lives have been claimed amid the conflict, and for many around the world, watching and worrying is no longer enough. People of influence like Milla Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have led campaigns to provide aid for displaced Ukrainians. Others have offered resources to help those still within Ukrainian borders, such as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada based drone company, Draganfly.
Founded in 1998 by Cameron Chell, Draganfly has been a pioneer in North American drone development, beginning with the release of the first commercial quadrocopter in 1999. When the word “drone” was synonymous with military operations, Draganfly saw the potential for a booming commercial industry. They are even credited with being the providers of the first drone to ever save a human life. Draganfly’s Medical Response and Search and Rescue Drones are some of the most trusted drones for saving lives.
Fully designed and manufactured in North America, Draganfly’s Medical Response drones can support a payload of up to 35lbs. As explained on the company website, “The Medical Response Drone is equipped with our innovative temperature managed payload box, which is able to maintain cold chain requirements for temperature-sensitive medical supplies. The Payload box is uniquely top mounted to ensure deliveries are safer and more accessible.” Because of the temperature controlled payload box, these drones can safely transport vaccines, medications, blood, tissue samples, and other emergency supplies. The drone can also support a bottom loaded payload box for additional items.
On March 22, 2022, Draganfly announced that they had received authorization to donate and send Medical Response and Search and Rescue drones to Ukraine. They hope to eventually send a total of 200 units to Ukraine, with an initial immediate delivery of 10 drones. They will also be donating 3 drones directly to the non for profit organization headed by Iryna Vashchuk Discipio, Revived Soldiers Ukraine (RSU). The company’s headquarters are in Orlando, FL, but they have been providing aid to Ukrainian citizens and helping to rehabilitate soldiers since 2015. In recognition of her valiant efforts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently bestowed upon Iryna the Order of Princess Olga award.
Iryna is beyond relieved to know that others in the world are ready to help Ukraine. “There is an urgent need for medical supplies and equipment in several dangerous and hard-to-reach areas,” Iryna said. “Draganfly’s Medical Response and Search and Rescue Drones will play a crucial role in ensuring that those affected have access to the aid they require.” Over the last 6 years, RSU has been dedicated to finding ways of providing emergency aid in both the US and Ukraine in the shortest time possible. Iryna said the drones have been critical in meeting these needs and can make all the difference for those suffering in Ukraine now. And as for Draganfly, Cameron proudly said, “Draganfly has a long and proud history of supporting EMS services and humanitarian aid operations globally. Our Medical Response and Search and Rescue Drones will help RSU deliver critical supplies, equipment, and visual oversight.”
