This Drone Can Transport 200 Pounds of Weight With Ease
A Kentucky based company, Mobile Recon Systems, has announced a new drone called ‘Dauntless’ which is capable of lifting and transporting over 200 lbs of weight. This report comes a few years after the launch of their previous drone called KittyHawk, which was a quadcopter that was designed to carry up to 3 GoPro cameras.
The Dauntless comes in 2 variations. As a quadcopter or an octocopter. The quadcopter weighs 77 lbs and is designed to be able to lift a minimum payload of 100 lbs, while the octocopter weighs close to 200 lbs which includes an extra set of rotors and a motor to each of its 4 arms.
Robust Design and Reliable Power Backup Included
The Dauntless features an aircraft aluminum and titanium frame. It has a carbon fiber body, plus battery box, canopy, and rotors. It’s been designed to be portable and users can take it apart for easy transportation. It even has integrated hand grips to make it easy to carry around once all the pieces have been assembled together.
Its electrical power comes from two 2,400-watt generators that run on a gasoline. According to reports, it can stay in flight for as long as five hours. In addition to the generators, it carries two lithium batteries as an extra source of power which can be drawn upon whenever a power boost is required, or for dealing with emergency landings in case the generators run out of power.
The Dauntless can either be piloted remotely by one person, or it can be programmed to fly autonomously after defining a set of GPS points. It comes with features such as fully automatic take-off and landing, in addition to automatic return-to-launch, which makes non-autonomous flight easier.
High Usability and Industry-wide Applications
The Dauntless isn’t designed just for lifting and moving cargo around. It can also be used for surveillance, radiation detection, and weather reporting. Some optional add-ons include gimbal-mounted cameras, radiation detectors, LiDAR, radar modules and more.
Other suggested applications for this drone include border and perimeter security, medical emergency response, natural disaster response, and aerial analysis and mapping. The cost of the Dauntless varies depending on the chosen options and configuration and according to some reports, the price of the drone may cost over $100,000.
